One Step Further

Yui = Yuno = Nene

Tsumugi = Hiro = Sylia
Mio = Sae = Priss
Ui and/or Azu-nyan = Chika-chan = Mackie
Sawa-chan = Yoshi = ... Leon?

K-Sketch!

Unavoidable comparisons:

Yui = Yuno
Ritsu = Miyako
Tsumugi = Hiro
Mio = Sae
Ui and/or Azu-nyan = Chika-chan
And of course
Sawa-chan = Yoshi

'Course, that mangles some of the relationships, but it's pretty close.

Planned Poopages

We're going to be having three short outages over the next week as I repair the damage from last week's drive crash.

First one is early Sunday morning, around 1AM Central time, to add a new RAID-1 array.  About ten minutes, all users.

Second one will vary; I need to migrate all the OpenVZ containers to the new array, so that will happen on a per-container basis.  Expect about five minutes downtime at some point late at night for your site, wherever it might be in the system.

Third one will be to replace the faulty drive and then wipe and rebuild the corrupted RAID volume.  About ten minutes for all users again.

RAID is NOT supposed to do this, but since when have computers ever done what they're supposed to do?

Update: Poopage #1 completed successfully!  That was the only one that had any chance of causing problems, so that's a good thing.

Cool

Hmm, Maybe

I've been working with The Electric Ant Orchestra* (in between my fighting hackers, spammers, hardware failures, bosses who want every cool new feature in place today**, and random germs*** and their live shows at The Scythe) on a new album, a sort-of prequel to our recent Winter Collection.

Because we came up with a name that was too cool**** not to put something together and get it out there.

It's called SemiAutumnatic.

With any luck, the first section, Cities, should show up here this weekend.  I'm still tinkering with the mixes on two of the tracks, so we'll see how that goes.

* My friends Liz, Harri (never Harriet!) and Su.
** Yes, it's most often actually a cool feature, but today is not always practical.
*** Have come down with some coldy-fluey thing.  Entering the third day, and it's not too horrible so far, so probably just a nasty cold.
**** For... certain values of cool.

Anime

Akane-iro ni Somaru Saka

This is what you get when you take a hentai dating simulation, remove most of the hentai, and then use the NO! WRONG! ending.

All the girls are insane, except the one who is crazy.  The hero - such as he is - is pretty much the only sane person in sight, and he has the brains of a cheeseburger - or, I suppose, the hormones of a teenager - or he'd run for his life.

Really not recommended.  If you want tsundere romangst, try the far superior Toradora or Shana.  Or even Zero no Tsukaima.  It's all the same character (and the same voice actress) anyway.

Wait.  Rie Kugimiya played Rizel?  Huh.

Hidamari Sketch x365

Good grief.  Even the mother is a moeblob.

Excuse my while I lapse into a diabetic coma.  And this from someone who took the whole of Ichigo Mashimaro straight up.

Progress, Though Not In Any Direction I'd Planned

Actually, this is something I'd wanted to do, just not under these circumstances.

I have a 1TB drive in Mikan, and both servers have gigabit network ports (Akane was supposed to already, but didn't, and that's what ended up causing the second outage), so I can start doing regular full rsync backups.  Of everything.

Bum

And a network configuration goof which took us offline again.  I thought we'd had another crash, but no, it was just that the IP addresses for the virtual machines come unbound if you restart the network stack without rebooting.

Eesh.

And I've Got WTFF News

Akane, the new super-server that hosts everything mu.nu and mee.nu in over a dozen virtual machine, just died for no apparent reason.

Yeah, we're back.  Because I was already awake at 4:30AM because I'd been up all night fixing other problems.

Had to do an index repair on the main posts table; other than that we seem to be okay.

Update: Guess what the cause of the crash was?  Go on, guess!  You'll never guess!

Oh, you guessed. sad

Update: It gets better.  Apparently I need to back up all my data, rebuild the array, and restore everything again.  Why the hell do I have a RAID controller in the first place?

Update: Okay, I think I've got it.  The system locked up and crashed, apaprently due to a bad disk.  Now it has inconsistent data between the data drives and the parity drive for some part of the secondary volume.  That may or may not be a serious problem, and there's no way to tell unless you run the fix process.  The fix process may involve completely wiping and rebuilding the array.

So no matter what, I need a complete copy of everything on another server.  Which is not a bad thing to have anyway, but it is sixteen million files.

Update: 700,000 down, 15.3 million to go.  I have to back up sixteen complete virtual machines, plus the backup directory, plus the mee.nu filestore.

Update: 2,700,000 done.  There are 5.7 million files across the virtual machines, and another 9.7 million in the backup volume.  But the backup volume doesn't *have* to be backed up, because it's a backup.

So, halfway.

I'll schedule the RAID repair for this weekend, so that if it does end up taking us out, I have the maximum time to fix things.
