Into Each Season Of Doctor Who Some Suck Must Fall
Or so it would seem. And this week's episode is all that. 14 minutes in and it's so bad that I've stopped watching five times.
Update: Okay, it picked up a bit after that. But a very clumsily-written episode, which is particularly bad because it hit a couple of very important points for the season story arc.

Because I require logins to comment, I don't get a lot of spam. In fact, until today it's only happened one time. But the guy who seems to be spamming you today has also been spamming me.
I've deleted four, and I just switched one to "hidden", because of this: I want to ban him, but I can't figure out what to use. He presumably has a mee.nu account and is logged in, but he isn't using his login name, or his login page, or anything which the ban page accepts as an ID.
It's kind of like black magic where you need to know someone's true name in order to cast a death spell on him. How do I figure out this guy's true name in order to add him to the ban list?
(I assume you're probably going to use the Pixy ban hammer on him, but I'm reporting this because I think it's a bug: there's no way in the admin comments page for me to find out the true identity of a commenter.)

Yep, good point - I'll get that fixed up.

This new season has been a little patchy. Definitely a very different take on the Doctor.
That he isn't the only solution to the problem. Some terrific setups and ideas but very uneven.
I'll weather the ups and downs anyways.

Hi Pixy. Sorry to bother you again, but apparently my "bandwidth has been exceeded" at my blog.
For such a little read blog, I get a lot of spam traffic. Any ideas on what I can to try and stop this from happening in the future?

In fact, I do have an idea.
I have just added a new server with 100TB of bandwidth. I'm setting it up as a caching proxy server, such that (for example) http://cache.physicsgeek.mu.nu/images/jessica_alba_topless.jpg will fetch the image from the caching server with its near limitless cheap bandwidth rather than direct from the main server.
It's not ready yet, but should be up and running in a week or so.
In the meantime, I've given you another 100GB a month.

It's one of the few shows i am following this year. I could not get into k-on.

That's entirely understandable - it just means you're a bad person.

Is that all, i thought i would lose my otaku ranking if i did not like it.

Kidding aside, I think
K-On! is the shaping up as the best cute-girls-being-cute show since
Azumanga Daioh. Season one was very good, and season two shows the promise of being even better.

Where'd The Internet Go?
I can only reach small randomly distributed parts of it. Fortunately including mu.nu/mee.nu.
Can't get to isitdownorjustme.com, which is alanic.
Hmm. Seems to be my ISP. My backup connection works.

Have you tried using a different DNS? It might be just the DNS servers of your ISP
Open DNS is:
208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220
if you want to give it a shot.

The weird part is that DNS is working fine. The sites resolve, but won't load.

Also that I can get here with no problems.

I think it's the BakaBT curse in operation. (BakaBT's server works today but the tracker is down. Except that I can reach the tracker; it's just not matchmaking me with anyone.)

Re OpenDNS, there have been cases where they've overridden and redirected particular URLs. I don't trust them.

Got up this morning and everything was working. Almost makes me afraid to touch anything...
BakaBT were setting up DDoS mitigation yesterday, and it mitigated the tracker to death. Looks like they've fixed it now.

Pixynator? Problem over at The Pond... I just had a spamflood, and now my comments are wonky again. The sidebar is showing comments from 4/21 and older... help?

I despise spammers. If you're interested, Pixy, I've got a selection of of them junked in my "edit comments" page, almost all of them linking to the same website.
Of course, they've screwed up my comments sidebar, too.
Halp?

Midori & Momoko
New servers this week: Midori and Momoko.
These will replace Mikan; the reason is that SoftLayer are finally running their elusive "triple double" special at a time when I can take advantage of it.
Generally, they run either a double-memory-and-disk special
or a double-bandwidth special. I got Mikan on a double-bandwidth special. That means it has 4TB of bandwidth (which is pooled with Akane/Aoi), but only 2GB of memory and a single 250GB disk (I later added another 1TB drive).
With the "triple double" special I get double memory, disk, and bandwidth for no extra charge, so the plan is to get two low-end boxes like that (Xeon 3050 dual-core servers). That will give us 10TB of primary bandwidth (as well as the 100TB of media cache thingy bandwidth we have from Kurumi) which should keep us happy for a while.

Princess Chuchu
Just finished watching
Princess Tutu. Quite remarkable.
Very highly recommended - for the story, for the music, for the characters, and for Nanae Katou's remarkable performance as Ahiru. Of course it doesn't hurt that I'm a Tchaikovsky fan from way back.
Four ugly ducklings out of four.
Quack!
