Character designs and animation are quite good, so worth a watch if you can overlook its flaws.
* Who would have thought that the most practical way to defend Earth from meteors was to send a giant robot into space and punch them?

I have a screencap where the teacher says very plainly, that "using missiles would be the most practical way to deal with the threat, but since our nation cannot use such destructive weapons, we have to do with giant robots". I've got to write down the actual script one time. Awesome! Just think how quaint this is going to seem when Japan gets own nukes due to NK threat.
