  • Yes, we have no frozen bananas.  Or frozen anything else.  (Tom's Hardware)

Hacking attacks across Europe not only switched off waves of supermarket freezers but locked the built-in defrosting units on to hit temperatures of 50C (122F) making for a decidedly toasty environment for ice cream.

1 Apparently it's been years since I visited Ars Technica, because since I didn't have any of their cookies they assumed I was a bot and asked me to complete a "prove you're human" check involving identifying pictures of chairs.

Well, I'm not interested in providing free labor to help train someone's vision model for an indoor robot, so I declined, and went to archive.is instead.

2 Yeah, some analysts have me suspecting the AI companies this time, for the food supply hacks. I really don't think the two purest LLM big companies in San Francisco really understand what the public expectations for airplane regulation are. If we had an aeronautical development company talking up the number of flight test engineers that they are killing, for example, they will get shut down so hard, and so fast. Highly intelligent sociopathic idiots larping for their friends just are not who I want to hire to implement and test safety critical software for any application.

3 What fsking IDIOTs left those controls exposed?  They should be forced to pay for the wasted food out of their own pockets after they get that security hole filled. Reporting temps and status, yes.

Actual controls too?  Were you born this stupid or did you get dropped on your head on a regular basis???

4 I can't decide if OpenAI or Anthropic is more likely to be responsible for the freezer hack.
