The Other News Stuff 22 September 2021

So what's going on with the protests in Melbourne today - oh.

If you've seen the crowds you might have noticed a strong Sikh presence.  This propaganda is insultingly stupid and absolutely vile.

Volcanoes are too good for him.

Update: Walk like an authoritarian:

History doesn't repeat, but it reverberates.

1 Isn't the current government Victoria ostensibly formed from the supposedly less insane of the two main parties in Australia?

...And I seem to recall a time when the Australian Army was banned from being used against striking workers.

2 No, here in NSW we have the less insane one.  In Victoria they have the crazy wing of the crazy party.

3 I just realized that I read 'ALP' wrong.  My bad.  Though considering the Liberals gave the world the two Malcolms, I have to wonder sometimes.

5 In all charity and fairness to your wonderfully insightful politicians, I recall once arguing that since Charlie Hebdo knew so much about America, that they must have been accurately referring* to African-Americans as fascist, and Mexicans as Neo-Nazis.

Religions out of India /are/ known for association with Swastikas.

When I was a kid, nobody ever told me that Sikhs could not be white supremacist.

Aryans are Aryans, amirite.

Indeed, those politicians are impressively attentive, honest, polite and well mannered.  They should be held up as an example to all.

*They made some comments about Houston during that year when the storms took out so many of the refineries, etc. there.  So it was at least as just an interpretation of Charlie Hebdo as Charlie Hebdo's was of Houston's population.

6 The old Customs House building in Sydney, down near the harbour, is decorated throughout with a swastika motif.

Rather jarring until you realise it was built around 1850.

7 I would have specified the mechanical fasteners I have in mind for physically holding up the politicians, but it would have wrecked the effort to say something while apparently passing tests of civility.

In hindsight, Anti-Fa makes one wonder if Anti-Fa thinks American blacks are fascist, because of black and fascist sharing a meaning.

Turns out they just hate blacks who have bourgeois values.  Where bourgeois values mean 'not being a vicious nihilist'.

These politicians and their coreligionists are savages, incapable of living at peace with the rest of the world.  I honestly don't see a better alternative than killing the lot of them.

However, whenever I look at a proposal of how to kill them, the costs are very high, and appear to be prohibitive, if we can say anything is prohibited.  I am very glad that Australia's chunk of the problem is not my responsibility.  There are more than enough problems for everyone, so I hope someone comes up with a better idea than I have so far.

I've been very glad of your coverage, gives me some hope that Australian culture is inspiring some good ideas.

8 Go to any city in Asia with a sizeable Buddhist population...You will see symbols on Buddhist temples and elsewhere that would shock and surprise Westerners.  My personal favorite is how Buddhist prayer rooms in at least one Asian airport was marked for the illiterate traveler.

9 cxt217, in preparation for the 2020/2021 Olympics, Japan's mapping standards group proposed replacing the not-actually-a-swastika as the map symbol for Buddhist temples, to avoid confusing all those foreign tourists who ended up not being allowed into the country. I don't know if they went through with it; it sounds like there was a lot of pushback.

Apple pies are delicious. But never mind apple pies. What colour is a green orange?
