1 Glasses prices are an utter ripoff. The quoted article says the average price for a pair of frames is $231.  Meanwhile, you can get glasses online from places like Zenni Optical with frames starting at $6.  I have extreme nearsightedness, and even with high-index plastic and a surcharge for a high prescription I can still buy a pair of glasses for $100 or so.  I have to wait a week or two for it to be shipped from China, but with my prescription strength I was already waiting a week or so because even places that make lenses in house would farm mine out.

2 "What the Vision Council probably didn’t want to get into is the fact that for years a single company, Luxottica, has controlled much of the eyewear market."
And then Luxottica merged with another giant.  So basically they're like De Beers--the only reason diamonds are so expensive is that De Beers pretty much buys 100% of global production.

3 The comments over at that Tom's article about Ryzen...sheesh.  One guy says that if the midrange part is only a 6C12T, he probably won't want to upgrade from his i5-3470.  Right, because you won't want something that's probably clocked a bit higher, but also has an extra 2 cores and 6 threads over what you're using now, plus has USB3, m.2, etc.

4 My last glasses were about A$600 per pair - and I needed both reading and distance.  And that was with some of the cheaper frames.

This time I'm going to order online.

Apple pies are delicious. But never mind apple pies. What colour is a green orange?
