But Then What Isn't These Days Edition
Tech News
- Cities: Skylines is Turing-complete. (Medium)
But it requires tremendous amounts of poop to function.
- Let's build a compiler.
But maybe first let's build a website that doesn't make my eyes bleed.
- How many kinds of USB-C to USB-C cables are there? (Kernel.org)
Six. There are six. USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 will use any valid USB 3.2 Gen 2 cable, and simply work twice as fast.
There are also approximately seventeen trillion ways to get USB-C cables wrong, with billions of new wrong cables invented daily.
- Critical bug in WordPress plugin blah blah 200 trillion sites affected blah everyone doomed blah film at eleven. (Bleeping Computer)
The WordPress plugin system was explicitly designed from the outset to be as unsafe as possible.
- This microcontroller is so fast>
How fast is it?
It's so fast it can output 1080p60 over the serial port. And it has six serial ports. (Just monochrome 1080p60, but what do you want for $3.37 qty 5000?)
Video of the Day
Little bastards had it coming.

Cities: and 15-months of in-game time (20 minutes of real time) for a 4-bit adder. Nobody's going to be making a full 8-bit CPU in that game that actually does anything. Neat idea but too awkward.
USB: My new motherboard came with a pair of USB 3 jacks, for 4 ports. My new Lian Li case came with a pair of USB3 ports, and a cable for same. It also came with a USB C jack, and the cable is different. I'm not sure if any motherboards have a USB-C header, but my new $379 motherboard doesn't. (As it turns out, Lian Li makes a $30 adapter, if I can find a place to buy it.) I'm also not clear on this but I expect it will limit the front-panel port to 5Gbps, but I don't think I have any 10Gbps devices yet anyway.
"This microcontroller is so fast" it ate the link.
6 1-bit serial ports provide enough bits to give you 6-bit color.
