The HDMI Audio Driver In The Explorer With A Chainsaw
Ever since I got my Radeon 4850* I've had this little problem: Windows Explorer refreshes itself at a rate of about 1Hz. This means that the mouse pointer constantly flickers from its normal state to busy and back again, certain icons also flicker, and various drop-down boxes close themselves 500 milliseconds after you open them.
The fix I found was to completely disable the Shell Hardware Detection service - the process that brings you autoplay. That kills autoplay, of course, but it solves the problem in explorer.
But not in Steam. Fortunately, I hardly ever use Steam.
And so I had six months of peace.
Over the weekend, though, I went on something of an install-and-update frenzy, having, after all, 28GB of new software to try out, and I updated to Vista SP2.
And the flicker returned. Grrr.
So I went searching for the thread where I originally posted the fix to remind myself what it was, and found that someone had come up with a much better fix: Just disable HDMI audio output.
Well, duh. I should have guessed that instantly.

Hi Pixy!
About 30 minutes ago tried to load my page (c.a.2030 gmt) and got this (email addresses munged)

Just tried again. Page now loads ok, but three posts made today (the only ones I've done so far this month) are gone. They also don't appear in the EDIT->Posts list.
The count next to the June 2009 archive link still shows "3".

We had corruption on an index on the posts table.
I don't know why, but it's happened twice recently. We're moving to a new server this weekend, and when I do that I'll do a full database rebuild to remove any potential issues.

That index isn't hosted in Chicago, by any chance? (Because that'd explain the corruption... hah-hah!)
Hey, I'm not gonna complain about free ice cream, even if it IS occasionally squash flavor. The only reason I didn't sit quiet was the "recipient refused" part of the error message.
Thanks, as usual.
