1 That explains why I just had to log back in.

2 Yep.

I guess I can take some comfort from the fact that I blew up the database (well, part of it), and all you had to do was log back in.

Backups.  Gotta love 'em.

3 Just to explain further - a handful of small control tables, including the sessions table, got wiped.  The big tables, containing posts and comments, didn't.  So I just needed to restore the backup to another location and retrieve the missing tables from there.

Could have done it quicker except that there was a permissions problem masquerading as a data corruption, so I went the safe-but-sure route.

Well, it could happen to anyone. (I mean that seriously.)

Back on my XP system, where I had a normal user account and an admin account, I changed the admin account so that the screen background color was a dull red (compared to medium blue for the normal account). That way I always knew if I was in admin mode.

5 Yep.  I do that at the office, and I just set it up here.  My terminal sessions to live systems are now a lovely salmon pink.
