The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya is too the best series of 2006. Shakugan no Shana is the only really close runner-up, and that first aired in 2005. Magipoka is fun, but too episodic to quite make the grade. Ouran... Well, I can see why some people might like it, but it's not the real Haruhi.
And Kanon is a pile of poo. Uguu my ass.

Personally, I took away ZnT from 2006.

I liked Zero no Tsukaima well enough, but for me it would come after Haruhi and probably Magipoka. (And after Shana if we count that.)

Kanon has always spoken well of you, Pixy...
And, really, who expected the wild success of Haruhi anyways? I mean, other than the title character, that is.
To be honest, Haruhi wasn't the best anime I saw in 2006; that'd be CardCaptor Sakura (yes, I'm running a bit behind). But if it wasn't the best new anime in 2006, it's certainly on the (very) short list. Ouran, Death Note, Simoun would be the only ones I can think of that could even be considered...

Actually, how's the strong authentication support coming in Minx?Just great!
...
Not sure what you're referring to, actually. I've got passwords and captchas and IP tracking and some anti-XSS measures; I don't have any fancy challenge-response type stuff. I can force people to register before commenting, but I haven't turned that on yet, because I don't allow people to register just yet. Mind you, that would eliminate comment spam...
