Firebog
Okay, the real problem is probably that Firefox is single-threaded, but the immediate problem was Firebug. Ever since I installed it I've been getting these random pauses while using Firefox.
Turn it off and the delays are gone, but so of course is Firebug.

It's extremely useful, but you soon find out why it has a prominent disable option.

Why oh why did you wait this long to tell me that Firebug existed? This is the greatest thing in history, since, well, ever. Imagine all the time I've wasted so far which could have been saved if I had known about it.
