16 episodes? Oh, sure, 16 episodes in the original series.
And another 104 in the second series.
And another 48 short episodes in the third series.
And then there's the Summer Special, the Christmas Special, the OAV, the Movie...
Update: 104 episodes at twelve minutes each. The first series was actually designed as advertising, but it became a hit in its own right, leading to a veritable explosion of cute.

One of the things I'm finding amusing is the way the series makes fun of the shop's customers. Ordinarily you'd think that would be a no-no for what amounts to an elaborate advertising campaign, but since nothing in the series is serious, it fits right in -- and apparently didn't offend.
There's the over-sophisticated long-haired guy, and the scared kid, and the two fat ones. None of them are portrayed in flattering light. But I think the only character who is portrayed in a flattering light is Puchiko. (Nyu!)
I liked how Dejiko used her eye lasers to zap some (non-)customers who were leaving without buying anything.
In the extras there was an outright actual advertisement for "Gamers" which included yet another little girl. This one was blonde and was maybe dressed up as a bear? I'm not sure. Anyway, she's not actually in the eps I've got. She is named "Piyoko" and is voiced by Hayashibara Megumi, and I think I've missed something good.
Just what kind of animal is she supposed to be?
