Top Story
- One of the UK's innumerable regulators has fined 4Chan £20,000 for... Well, basically for telling them to get fucked, which the British didn't take too well in 1776 either. (The Verge)
:Today sends a clear message that any service which flagrantly fails to engage with Ofcom and their duties under the Online Safety Act can expect to face robust enforcement action," Ofcom enforcement director, Suzanne Cater, said in a statement.
4Chan has responded by suing Ofcom in federal court... In the US.
4Chan could be in more trouble still if they don't kiss the ring:Starting from tomorrow, 4Chan additionally faces a daily penalty of £100 for either 60 days or until 4Chan complies with the information requests, up to a maximum of £6,000.
Yes, I'm sure that will do the trick.
Tech News
- The Dutch government has seized control of technology company Nexperia from its Chinese owner Wingtech. (Tom's Hardware)
Nexperia focuses on boring but necessary products like diodes and transistors. It was spun off from Phillips in 2006 and sold to Chinese interests in two stages in 2017 and 2018.
Seems like they came to regret that.
- The Humbird 3 is a Thunderbolt 5 eGPU dock with a PCIe 4.0 x16 slot for $399. (Tom's Hardware)
The numbers. What do they mean?
It also has three downstream Thunderbolt 5 ports, a DisplayPort port, and a 5Gb Ethernet port. And up to a 500W power supply though the basic model only comes with 180W.
- Intel Blackout on VROC with Transition to Graid Technology in Another Streamlining Move. (Serve the Home)
What?
Oh. Intel sold off its virtual RAID products to a company called Graid.
I guess that makes sense.

"4Chan has responded by suing Ofcom in federal court... In the US."
Amusingly, Ofcom has said they don't recognize the authority of a US court to go after them. Very well, then, you have made your bed, now you may lie in it.
The guy who I guess is their lawyer was tweeting up a storm about it, but I don't remember where I saw it so I can't link, but he was saying that he's heard from people in the Federal government that before this there was no interest in a law but that someone's spoken to him that there's a bill about to be brought that would make it more explicit that we will ignore such threats. So basically, a rumor but I'd love to see a law saying "we won't respect judgments made in foreign countries against action by American companies in America."

My new laptop--which the sale ended on Sunday and is now $1000--turns out to have a pair of USB 4 (sadly, not Thunderbolt per se) ports, and now I kinda want to try out an eGPU.
My Minecraft modpack of choice, Steampunk [LPS], runs like crap because of only having 16GB of RAM, but if I turn down the graphics enough (and run at a resolution like 1280x720) Guild Wars 2 is playable enough I can do jumping puzzles aka parkour in game.

(sorry for the inadvertant "enter" key above)
"Larua Branigan"
Patti Smythe, Kate Bush (I've had "Suspended in Gaffa" stuck in my head all day: in a good way), Claire Grogan (Altered Images), Sally Timms (Mekons), maybe Sarah Cracknell from St. Etianne, Tori Amos ("Sister Janet" is a _good one_, and "Frog On My Toe" is even better), Danielle Dax (who was in Lemon Kittens, but could have been in Melons Tikken), and of course the incomperable _Wing_ (q.v.).

Normal, if you're going to keep doing that you should at least tell the rest of us how you are doing it!
