Top Story
- Huawei has set up an entirely Arm-based datacenter in Moscow. (Tom's Hardware)
Free pen-testing with every server!
Tech News
- Need a motherboard with up to 128 cores and 4TB of RAM? Gigabyte has you covered. (AnandTech)
At just over $1000 the board itself isn't that expensive as things go. A pair of 64 core CPUs could set you back fifteen grand, though, and 4TB of RAM gets expensive fast.
- Google has teased pictures of the upcoming Pixel 6. (AnandTech)
With its mismatched colours it looks like a $79 Vietnamese knock-off.
- Windows 10 will soon start automatically blocking PUPs. (Bleeping Computer)
Potentially unwanted programs - that is, programs that aren't explicitly viruses but that you don't want running.
Whether this is a good or bad thing depends on how well it is implemented. MacOS has the same feature, and when a server at Apple went down no Mac users anywhere in the world could run anything for a couple of hours.
- China is now hacking phone companies throughout Southeast Asia. (ZDNet)
And by "is now" we probably mean "always has been but just got caught at it".
- The Pentagon believes its new AI system can predict events days in advance. (Engadget)
The examples given are spectacularly unimpressive.
Disclaimer: They're fictional, and they're spectacularly unimpressive.

Yeah, that isn't a feature update I'm eager for.
I don't like office staying resident, and there are elements of Windows Update I dislike running when I want to do something else on a weak machine. MS may be inclined to whitelist stuff I dislike.
And I've installed maybe one program through the MS store, so I'm a little concerned what it might break for me.
Pentagon has a lot of factions, and they believe a lot of things. The senior administrators in the military are not all going to be super informed about the limits of valid uses for computers. The program funding decisions in congress are even less informed. Public Affairs will talk up a failing program right up until it gets the axe.

As an aside, I hate that "X/X Pro" naming scheme, and prefer, if they have to, something like "X/X XL" because it feels like it's aimed at making you buy the "Pro" version to keep up with the neighbors. Also, the rumors about a Switch Pro were always stupid just because Nintendo never uses a naming scheme like that.
Having said that, the back of the Pixel 6 is just fugly. What I want is another phone like the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2: flagship specs, non-crazy price, fairly lite skin (people can say whatever they want about bloatware, but the phone was fast), unlocked, and even had a dual sim tray (of course, since the phone was never sold in the US, I had to order it from India or wherever via banggood, but that's not a big deal.)

Given all the junkware that ships with windows, I really don't have high confidence in their judgement of what might be "Potentially Unwanted".

I don't care if a phone is ugly, but that protrusion sure makes me want to run it through a power planer.

Sadly, it seems like you can't get a high-end phone without a stupid camera bump these days. Thank idiot reporters like the one at Arse Technica (and other sites) who constantly pounded the "we want paper-thin phones" drum, until the phones became too thin to fit the camera.

Dammit, I depend on uTorrent. I already had to content with MalwareBytes fucking up my install once. I have a key for 10, but I won't set it up if this is the case.
Just have to figure out how to make this 7 install more stable.... There is NO good help on the web. It's all "Install our untrusted shitware and post your result on the forum."
