With graphics cards still absurdly overpriced, it's tempting to get a prebuilt server from some place like Dell, pull the graphics card, and sell the rest on eBay.
Dell did have an XPS desktop model with a 3070 that was good value for this, though the machine itself sucks. But that model has disappeared and the best they offer in Australia right now is a 3060 Ti, and the pricing there is marginal at best.

The new Lenovo ThinkPad P1 Gen 4, though, is worth a look. Not cheap, but worth a look.

Shucking OEM systems for GPUs: you have to be careful about this. Gamers Nexus did a review of a Dell prebuilt a month or so ago, and the OEM version of whatever card they got was the worst-performing model of that card they'd tested: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4DMg6hUudHE

For me, the only computer games I would want to play again that came out after 1996 or so would be Diablo 2 & Civ III, and those run fine under Wine on 10+ year-old integrated graphics.
I really do like Elite, and F:E2 & F:FE were also fun; but again: you don't need anything more than a potato for those.
