- Spent five hours tracking down a bug that turned out to be the sha3 NPM package doesn't install under the current version of Node,js. Or the previous version. Don't know about the version before that, but if you go to the version before that, presto.
Of course nothing anywhere says that this is the case, but if you dig back through bug reports for the past couple of years, you will find that the exact same thing happened in 2018, only three versions removed.
- Dug out my Xperia tablet - an Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact - and fired it up.
After sitting in a box for two years it works perfectly and still had 88% on its battery.
As it happens, it's the 16GB model, and now that I have it running again I remember that I gave up on it because the Kindle app ate all the available space. About a year ago the Amazon finally updated the Kindle app to support external storage.
None of this would be a problem at all if Sony hadn't broken adoptable storage, but they did.
- If you can't find a good 7" tablet anymore, why not a 6.8" phone? (AnandTech)
I mean, Snapdragon 865, 8GB RAM, 128GB storage, 2460x1080 AMOLED display, 64MP main camera, wireless charging, 5G, IP68 water resistance, microSD, and a headphone jack. Oh, and an optional second screen.
Price TBA but probably not cheap.

Yeah, I have a phone with 8GB internal and a 32 GB card in it, and the only thing it seems I can get to store on the card is photos. And THEN, when I plug in a USB cable, I can't see the card.

I rememeber wondering at one point if you could use adb to mount the sd card so that it would just appear as part of the regular filesystem.

That's what I did. I succeeded in mounting it as adoptable storage, but it didn't actually work. My Moto G4 Play also only has 16GB of storage, but it runs stock Android and supports adoptable storage. Added a 64GB card, formatted it as internal storage, and it has a single storage space of 80GB. No messing around, just works.

Man, every time I think about less-than-flagship phones, something like this comes up to remind me about the OTHER drawbacks.
Although my first tablet was one of those $50 Amazon Fires, and that had something like 8GB, and the Fires are pretty notorious for having performance drop off a cliff when they get close to full, for some reason.

Just give me a tablet like the Galaxy A 8 but with a somewhat-lower-resolution display and a better GPU. Why is this so hard?

The regular A 8 is only 1280x800, though the model with the pen is 1920x1200.
As for the G4 Play - that one's not just less-than-flagship, it's bargain basement. Also pretty old. You can do a lot better these days.

I'm just saying there's probably a resolution in the middle there that'll be easier on the GPU. I note my Galaxy S9 has three different resolutions it can run at although it's not like I did comparative frame-rate performance testing.
Farmville is brutal on the GPU. It runs...passably...on an Adreno 510, and pretty badly on anything lesser, and expecting Zynga to do stuff to increase performance is a hopeless cause.

My Mediapad also has that adjustable resolution thing for 3D. It's a 2560x1600 display and has a mediocre GPU, so it needs it.

The S9's got probably the bestish Android GPU there is right now. Ironically I don't game on it because of the darned curved edges. When holding the phone horizontally it's really easy to touch one of them and then basically any other touches get ignored. Plus once you've played on a 10.6" tablet (Galaxy S4) gaming on a phone is subpar due to the size (although the big tablet is relatively really heavy. I wish Samsung would put flagship CPU+GPU in an 8" tablet--the S2 was light as a feather.)

The Tab S6 gets the weight down to 420g from the S4's 480g. The original Nexus 7 was 340g, so that's pretty impressive. Shame it costs so much.
