How surprising that a company massively benefiting from a shortage is slow to resolve that shortage.

I'm maybe arguable as an economist, and my joking answer is 'lynch the economists'. Academic economics has the problem of most government funded scholarship in that selective funding has helped terrible scholarship take over entire fields. That they are unusually worried about AI in the first place is downstream of not understanding 'economics and machines'. tl;dr the Austrians are correct to reject the statistical methods that they reject. The academia funded by government is a jobs program, and the way to improve science might only be cuts to the jobs programs.
