- Microsoft will be offering a one year $30 support plan for users who are reluctant to move from Windows 10. (PC World)
Microsoft has its own page on this, but it is almost entirely trying desperately to persuade users to just switch to Windows 11; it's hard to even spot the support plan.
And unlike the business version of extended support, this will last for a single year, after which you will be cut off and left to install Linux.
On the upside:Microsoft will also continue to provide Security Intelligence Updates for Microsoft Defender Antivirus through at least October 2028.
Which is really all I want. Just leave me alone, stop screwing things up, and keep blocking viruses.

That's a net margin of -125%.
That's not at operating loss, though, but an accounting loss, taking charges for severance packages for the 15,000 employees being laid off, and writing down deferred tax assets whatever that means. (I understand accounting. US corporate tax law is a foreign country.)

Right, MS should have stopped with the absurd numbers inflation at 7. Just like that silly Linus guy should have stopped at 4.
And, as a FreeBSD user, I should gripe about them doing the same thing with numbers larger than 6. (I had to install 15-CURRENT to get a DRM version that was supported on this laptop some time ago)

I just want another Win10 code so I can maybe upgrade my laptop. Or do they stop checking codes when they stop support, or do they cease to validate at all?

Mauser, depending on your laptop, there's a decent chance you can just download an ISO of Windows 10, use Rufus to put it on a flash drive, and upgrade yourself. Any Windows 7+ key *should* work.

When I built my new Desktop, at first I tried the Win7 key the previous Desktop used, but it didn't work. Fortunately I'd gotten a legit one from someone with company store access. But since Win8 was preinstalled on my Laptop, I don't have a key that I know of.

Mauser, as far as I know, there's always a key, or you get the little watermark down in the bottom right that says something like "This copy of Windows isn't authentic."
You can find your key with a tool called the Magical Jellybean Key Finder. It's free--don't pay for the fancier version. I've used it many times over the years.

Yep. It's there, but it's annoying that Windows itself provides no means of finding it.
