I Still Aten't Dead

But busy.

My day job involves stitching together social networks such as Twitter, Facebook, and Youtube into a cohesive and accessible whole.  Last Thursday (and continuing on into the weekend) that whole got DDoSed.  The application providers responded by raising defences, and the combination of the attacks and the defences led to our cohesive and accessible whole decohering and inaccessibilising, and to my having to glue it all back together at several successive 4AMs.

Which general sequence of events is not unfamilar to me, of course.

Somewhere in there I got to go out and see Coraline, which is nicely animated but doesn't hold a lot of surprises if you've read the book, and to lay down rough cuts of the first four tracks of Summer Theologica.  I'm pushing ahead with my ambitious tenth-anniversary schedule of four albums in four months, and damn the torpedoes.

Normality will resume as soon as we are sure what is normal anyway.

1 Figured something was up after the third day of radio silence. DDoS-ers weren't sending comment spam, were they?

Oh that's right, now that we're on the new servers, I'll have to try downloading those again.

Fresh corn (maize) time here. Yummy.

2 I was wondering why I had become a small Chesterfield sofa.

3 Pixy,

When I try to access my blog, I get a "Bandwidth Exceeded" message. Can you help me, or tell me what I did wrong?

4 Sorry about that!  I've increased your bandwidth quota, so you should be fine now.

It's just a safety check in case something weird happens and all our bandwidth gets sucked up by one site.

5 THanks Pixy. I appreciate the help. Seeing bandwidth exceeded wasn't something that I EVER expected to see on my blog.

6 Actually, for some reason you're using quite a lot of bandwidth.  (That is, a couple of dollars worth - bandwidth is cheap.)

That probably means someone is hotlinking images from you.  I'll take a look.

7 I thought you already had that blocked.

8 On mu.nu, it's a per-account setting.  On mee.nu, it's blocked by default (though you can still hotlink images across mee.nu and mu.nu).

9 Any estimates on the completion of the submission of proposals for  establishing a tentative off-the-record preliminary target date for the determination of the normalcy?

10 MEDIC!!!

Sorry, 'bout that Brick. We're still waiting on the response from the vendor for the RFP...  We had it on the Gantt for 2ndQ of FY2011, but it looks like it will be pushed back. Due to scheduling conflicts, we've experienced difficulty in setting a meeting with them to discuss the matter.  If we are unable to get all the principals in place, a teleconference will be held, just as soon as IT finishes their state-of-the-art shortwave communications center.

(Proven, reliable technology FTW.)
