Mom, I Need A 3090 So I Can Play Minecraft Video of the Day

Gura just got herself a new PC with a 3090.  The 3090 is overkill and horribly expensive, but because of the steep price it is actually available when not much else is.

Is It Wrong to Pick Up Girls in a Minecraft Dungeon Video of the Day

Okay, that's slightly impressive.

1 It is a mark of the times that we live in that when I saw the container ship was part of the Evergreen line, I had to wonder if the PRC had decided to create an incident to make it look bad.

For those who do not know, the late founder of Taiwan-based Evergreen Group was, for the longest time before his death, a strong backer of the Taiwanese independence movement and a supporter of the DPP.  While his heirs are not as nearly as public, the company itself is still associated with both.

2 "it's Ars Technica at its most Ars. I told them off in the comments and then left."
I kinda wanna go looking to see just how many downvotes you get.  The first dozen comments were full of self-righteous nonentities who, no doubt, have nothing approaching a fraction of Stallman's accomplishments.

3 Yeah.  Impressive.  Though I find myself a) noticing some apparent issues with background being cut off by how the rendering is set b) wondering how they set up the foundation/leveling/initial terrain generation c) thinking that Orario's design is kind of boring in a way.  I mean, the design here would have been functional and easy, both in the LN and in the anime.  And doing a lot of expensive work doesn't really make sense if it does not serve a purpose.

It is just that when I start breaking down the design elements, I get the urge to realize a more complex extreme.  More rugged terrain, less regular lay out, fortifications that were obviously built in projects by different overseers at different times, drainage, more variety of buildings, etc.

I start comparing to the design of the Yin Eclipse in my recent go to example, Memories of the Fall, but the geography there is also kind of standard, with usual choice of tools and features.  Okay, the supplemental references include five maps for overlapping areas, and you do kind of want to have all five to refer to, so the place as presented in the story is complex and interesting.  But if you look at the geographical maps of Eastern Azure, you will think it can pass for a standard fantasy world.  Likewise, the geographical maps of the missing areas of Heavensward, on their own they are fantasy world maps.  Undergrove at least is a flooded mine on a staggering scale.

Anyway, Minecraft is the sort of thing that feeds the addictive aspects of my personality.  I am fortunate that I never really got into it.

It is interesting that they are working on doing fancier things in it.  I have to wonder if part of Minecraft's appeal over alternative space modeling schemes is the simplicity.

4 In fairness, Stallman is a communist, and we are approaching the season to murder communists.

Of course, a) I am a nobody, and will always be a nobody b) communists are big murderers of communists, so murdering communists does not make one a good person or a productive member of a society.

5 PatBuckman, the background getting cut off is probably a render distance setting.
Semi-related, I've heard that the way these timelapse videos go is they actually build the city, and the video itself is of them tearing it down, played backwards.  Not sure if that's true or not.

6 I wonder if there's a timelapse video mod for Minecraft....  Ah, yes.  Of course.  In fact, there's more than one.

Those of us who don't really play Minecraft (I didn't even own a copy until this year) underestimate how big a deal it is.

7 What'd you find, the replay mod?  That's used a lot by youtubers; all the Hermitcrafters use it.
Yeah, Minecraft's big.  It may be the most-selling game of all time.

Apple pies are delicious. But never mind apple pies. What colour is a green orange?
