Fucking Elasticsearch Edition

Tech News

  • If you store arbitrary dicts as subfields in MongoDB it will chug along just fine.  Not a care in the world.

Mirror that data to Elasticsearch and your server will die.  It doesn't take much; a few hundred records will do the trick quite nicely.

  • Qualcomm announced the Snapdragon 8cx Gen 2 laptop chip.  (Tom's Hardware)

What core does it use?  I don't know.  They don't say.  They never say.

It probably sucks.  I doubt it's more than a thousand times faster than the Imagine.

    Oh, it's a Kryo 495.  (WCCFTech)

What the ever-loving-fuck is a Kryo 495?  Looks like it's a 2018 design.  In other words the Gen 2 design is precisely the Gen 1 design, which failed completely in the marketplace two years ago.

  • The Cortex R82 is a 64-bit embedded processor core that can directly address up to 1TB of RAM.  (AnandTech)

For all the people building embedded systems with 1TB of RAM.

Amiga Music Video of the Day

I'm sure this is running on an emulator, but still.

Imagine Music Video of the Day

I think I posted this last year.  It's a good basic demo of wavetable synthesis.

The Imagine won't be able to do all of this, but will be able to do a surprising amount.  It's the post-processing filters that modern synths offer that I won't be able to support.  Oh, and modern synths use 32-bit floating point and much higher sample rates.

At the end of the video is a track played entirely with five voice wavetable synthesis.

Fujitsu FM-7 Video of the Day

This guy has quite the collection.  And that Z80 expansion slot is tiny.

Disclaimer: 128k should be enough for anybody.  Well, 128k of system RAM and 128k of VRAM.  And 128k of ROM so I don't need to load the compiler and editor in from floppy all the time.  And 3 MHz should be enough for anybody.  Four 3 MHz chips.  Two of which are multi-threaded, and another one with dual multiply pipelines.

Apple pies are delicious. But never mind apple pies. What colour is a green orange?
