Naming Names

It seems that my new server naming scheme of Japanes-girls-names-used-in-anime-that-are-also-colours is feasible after all.

A few months ago we consolidated down from four small servers to two larger ones, Midori and Aoi.  But what about the future?

Well, the future is safe, judging by this handy site and this wiki page.  Often, the form given is something-iro, meaning something-coloured, but I can live with that.

So I can use Sakura (pale pink), Mikan (a shade of orange), Akari (red), and Momoko (peach).  That should keep us going for a while.

1 You can also use Ai (indigo) from Popotan.

2 Ooh, missed that one.

3 There's also Ruri (azure), but do I really want a server where the only error message is "baka"?

4 Hello! I found your blog from over at Tim Blair's, and it instantly caught my eye. Now I've read some of your posts, and I'm sure you are what I've been searching for - I'm in desperate need of talking with fellow anime fans who don't have left-wing politics.

I see that you get your name from a Tenchi Muyo spinoff. I used to like that manga, but then the author went into hyper-environmentalist mode and had the heroines save a pristine coastline from the evils of building a theme park. Not that he wasn't brilliant though! There are many environmentalists in the Japanese media crowd...*cough*Miyazaki*cough* (Not that he isn't totally brilliant too.)

Looking at this post, I feel like I'm reading a website about anime characters. I mean, Sakura, Aoi, Mikan, and Momoko...There are so many girls named Sakura out there, they could start Sakura wars. smile

Personally I like Aoi. Have you ever seen this? It's the opening to Ai Yori Aoshi. I haven't seen the whole thing, but this opening is too beautiful not to share with everybody I happen to come across. smile

Sorry, I talk a lot. smile I hope we can be friends though!

5 Hi Nancy!  I didn't realise that Tim had me in his blogroll; that's really nice of him.

And yeah, I've seen all of Ai Yori Aoshi. smile   I run mu.nu and mee.nu, and the servers are named after Aoi from Ai Yori Aoshi and Midori from Midori no Hibi (Days of Midori).

If you're looking for anime fans sans the left-wing politics, might I suggest (ahem) a certain commenter here.  He also has a blogroll of sensible fellow fans that you might enjoy.

6 Oh, and previous servers (we need to upgrade every year or so) have been named Akane and Nabiki, Kei and Yuri, and Lina and Naga. smile

Hi Pixy, thanks for the link. I'll check it out.

I haven't actually seen that much anime...Akane and Nabiki I know. I'm very fond of Rumiko Takahashi's works. Maison Ikkoku is another really great manga I've read.

Hey, yesterday I tried to post my message with a website link to my Livejournal, where I occasionally post anime related things. But it said my website was "banned". I wonder why...

8 Oops.  The automatic spam filter has a tendency to ban Wordpress and Livejournal.  I'll get that fixed for you..
