I don't know. I thought the idea sounded cool back in 1992, but that was before I encountered the fansubs of
Daa Daa Daa Daa, which has a similar premise, and stank on ice.

I don't know if it's any good (I've downloaded one episode but not watched it yet); it just amused me after LeeAnn's comment of
What did you do, have children when you were in preschool? :)

The Fall Of Amaravati
I was wondering who would be the next victim.
Turns out it's Marc Miyake, who explains why Manga rocks and Amekomi sucks.
So sad to see a brave man fall.
Next!

Me, the "next victim"?
Hardly. I was reading manga in Japanese over twenty years ago. And watching anime almost thirty years ago.
Imagine being in my shoes in 1984, trying to sell people on anime.
From my POV, almost all fans are Johnny-come-latelys. Not that there's anything wrong with that. It's about time!

Hey, I was watching anime thirty years ago too!
Astro Boy! Kimba!
Albeit not in Japanese.
My comment was more about "Who will be the next mainstream blogger to suddenly and without warning start discussing anime" - after Steven Den Beste and Porphyrogenitus (among others).

Ah, now I understand. Thanks for the clarification.
Me, "mainstream"? Oh, I wish!
And that wasn't the first time I talked about Japanese entertainment. Have you seen my Space Runaway Ideon episode/movie guide? It ate up much of my blog from February to July 2003. This page links to all 47 or so entries:
http://www.amritas.com/idarch.htm
There are several other series I'd love to translate for my site, but I don't have the time.

Well, mainstream-ish. :)
I don't think I was reading your blog yet in July. I'll have to take a look.

This isn't going to turn into a version of the Monty Python "Four Yorkshiremen" sketch, I hope.
"Fansubs?! Why when *I* started watching anime we were lucky to have a good recording with a brief synopsis to glance at!" "...luxury."

Heh. :)
I've done that... Only I read too far ahead and spoiled the big surprise. :(
I gave up because my Japanese just isn't up to it. What did she say? Rewind...
What? Rewind... Nope, don't understand.
Took two hours to watch one episode that way.

Oh My God! I'm Trapped in Episode 26 of Evangelion!
Thanks to Mitch H. of
Blogfonte for the link to (ta da!)
Nadesico Thumbnail Theatre!
Ruri: Enough with the screeching already! Mr. Greenfield, take the amphetamines AWAY from Spike Spencer and Jennifer Earhart.
Thousands of Anime Fans: Shut up, Ruri! This is the best dub ADV has ever put out. No wonder it took them so long to release it.
Ruri: Grr. Idiots.
You know you want to!
Akito: Did someone say anime???
Akito, Megumi, Ruri, Minato, Howmei, Seiya, Goat and Admiral Fukube: WHOA!
Ruri: Ha ha, you have to wait until after the commercials to see what Gai showed us.
Thousands of anime fans: No we don't, we've got DVDs.
Ruri: Grrr.
Nadesico Logo: Quack Quack.

Run For Your Lives!
Not only
Steven Den Beste, who we know had already fallen victim, but now
Porphyrogenitus too!
Where will it end, people? Where will it end?
Will Glenn Reynolds be the next to fall? Or maybe (shudder) Lileks?
I'm a lost cause, but maybe you can save yourselves. It's not too late...
P.S. Still no crashy badness. Yay!

I was gonna say it is ironic you use Amy's pic for the category, because getting into Anime was a "spread effect" from watching Futurama eps on Cartoon Network last summer. It was on at 9:30 then, and The Big O followed it. I was too busy writing stuff to change the channel, and then I thought "this is pretty kewl", and was watching rather than writing.
So I guess I could blame blogging at night for my Anime problem. {*_+}

Amy is only there once a fortnight - the little icons change daily.
But I can see Futurama as a gateway
drug cartoon. Apart from that, it's one of the best shows to come from America in recent years.

And Sometimes A Pig
... is just a pig. Since the cat and the rabbit are shinigami (death spirits), one had to wonder about the pig. But no.

Yes, I found myself wondering about the pig as well, but like you said, sometimes a pig is just a pig.
You're in for a great ride, by the way. In its later episodes, FMWS went from being a show I simply enjoyed to a personal all-time favorite. It only gets better and better.

Full Moon
In episode 19,
Full Moon wo Sagashite breaks the mould. If you've ever watched a Magical Girl show, and thought
Things would be so much simpler if she would just...
Well, in episode 19, Mitsuki does.
It will be very interesting to see where it goes from here, because in Magical Girl shows, you just don't do that. (Waiting now for my readers to present innumerable counterexamples.)

Subsubsub Genre
Has anyone worked out a classification system for anime series about young girls who long to be idol singers and are suddenly granted the power to turn into teenagers and launched into a successful but traumatic career?
Taking into account such factors as the species of their talking animal companions, whether or not they are dying of cancer, that sort of thing?
Just wondering, that's all.
It's getting as bad as robot maids and schoolgirls falling into parallel universes that only they can save.

"Magical Girl/Idol". Of the various magical girl/idol shows, I think I liked
Full Moon o Sagashite best. I liked that cheerful mix of kawaii and fatalistic gloom.

Yes, but I wanted to classify the subsubsub genres
within the Magical Girl/Idol subsub genre. So we could have Magical Girl/Idol/Dinosaur Fairy and Magical Girl/Idol/Death Spirit and so on.
Err... Or maybe not.
