Awesome In So Many Ways

Up late because the server at my day job* went all melty.

Think I've fixed it, but I need to watch it for a bit to make sure it doesn't dribble on the carpet.

So, meanwhile, this is what the title says.

Oh and Chrome pastes the URL from the URL bar as a hyperlink.  Stupid Chrome.

* Is it still a day job when you're up at 3AM?

Liacshio

Just been renewing the various mee.xx domains that don't auto-renew.

Fortunately there's only two auds to the squid at the moment.  I thought it was in emus when I did the first one, then I did a double-take.

The crunch comes in 2011 when my mu.nu renewals octuple in price. sad

Bincho-tan!

It's pitch black, it's a cube (roughly), and it's small (relatively), so Bincho-tan it is.

Whew

Thought we were having another database glitch.  Nope - it's backup time, is all.

The HDMI Audio Driver In The Explorer With A Chainsaw

Ever since I got my Radeon 4850* I've had this little problem: Windows Explorer refreshes itself at a rate of about 1Hz.  This means that the mouse pointer constantly flickers from its normal state to busy and back again, certain icons also flicker, and various drop-down boxes close themselves 500 milliseconds after you open them.

The fix I found was to completely disable the Shell Hardware Detection service - the process that brings you autoplay.  That kills autoplay, of course, but it solves the problem in explorer.

But not in Steam.  Fortunately, I hardly ever use Steam.

And so I had six months of peace.

Over the weekend, though, I went on something of an install-and-update frenzy, having, after all, 28GB of new software to try out, and I updated to Vista SP2.

And the flicker returned.  Grrr.

So I went searching for the thread where I originally posted the fix to remind myself what it was, and found that someone had come up with a much better fix: Just disable HDMI audio output.

Well, duh.  I should have guessed that instantly.

* Teraflop!
