Meet you back here in half an hour.
What are you going to do?
What I always do - stay out of trouble... Badly.

Dear Santa
For Christmas, I would like to not have to deal with a double-drive failure in a 22TB RAID-5 volume.
(There's a reason why the new server we're building is configured with RAID-60.)
Update: It's dead, Jim. Not unexpected, but not the best timing.

YOU GOT SO MANY FRIENDS TODAY. I want friends toooo...
Still busy busy busy, but gradually bringing things under control.
I
have managed this, though:

There's not many allies left, in fact. One from PH, one from PW, three from MJ, and Triple H, who has been hiding from me. Plus the two I have already killed because we hates them. (Mister Tea and Right.)
Update: Picked up Euthanasia and Robogirl 3 today.

Besides being amazingly impressive, it seems a little rude to kill off an ally while hanging out with them (Right).
However, you have definitely set me a goal - be at least half as awesome in BvS.

I detect someone going for a K-belt... Or Nadeshiko? (Both?)
Good to be back in the (new) village with you guys. Running out of stuff to do myself, though the Con has plenty left (in addition to being -eerie- in its accuracy of convention parody...)
And fortunately, in BVS your awesome is quantified, so you'll know exactly at which point you've become half as awesome as Pixy.

Life In The 21st Century
Or, What I Did On My Weekend, by Pixy Misa, Age 2B
16Caught up on a three-week laundry and ironing backlog, cleaned the kitchen,
scoured the Wasteland for wooden tiles, dug out a controller for the genetic analyser for the
robot dinosaurs, had a teriyaki chicken fried rice kimchi omelette, went shopping, fought off a network worm that was overloading two of my virtual environments, set a social media indexing server to automatically balance multiple tiers of storage, and listened to a series of radio plays.
You?

If you know you're going to be spending the next day farming tacos, set your filler themes. Effectively increases your drop rate by a good bit, 50% to double.
Current consensus is that this happens because there is a hidden bonus to the taco drop rate depending on which month it is (and probably whether it contains T, A, C, or O in the name), and the filler themes activate every month at once. So you get the bonuses for every month... at once. ;p
I'd been running low, now I'm up to 400 or so. Don't know if it works exactly as advertised, but it works.
(Ordinarily you don't run your filler themes because of the NASTY penalty to stamina - 150 stamina lost for running all three, and you could have gained up to 70 if they'd been set to other things.)
Apparently this was found out by someone who had set filler themes to get access to sugary candy (they were trying to get a Hat of Sakurya) and ended up farming tacos on a Tuesday. Go fig...
Just leveling up here; need another 10 base levels in each stat or so before I feel confident of taking on the end of Pizzawitch, hard mode. That 40d45s/4stat check...

I swear that had line breaks in it when I typed it!
But I eated them.
And yeah, 40d45 is a leetle high. I

I was running PW at 33 crank, but that trick won't work for a quest.I couldn't get the first three Wasteland companions (Jaws, Palmface, Venus) when I was running a 3 crank, and you're doing PW at 33? Either you've got every bonus known to Ninja, or I just suck at
BvS.

13
So you're aiming to finish PW sometime around the heat death of the universe, eh?
Posted by: Wonderduck at Monday, September 20 2010 12:11 PM (blg68)
14
Around that time, yep.
Posted by: Pixy Misa at Monday, September 20 2010 01:11 PM (+J3Nt)
15
Eh. You only have to do 50 PW missions, and of those, you need a drop from four of them (the basic-level gear) and an ally level-up from two (Su-chan 2 and Lulu 2). Then you get access to a few more missions, of which you get a new ally from one (Blondie) and a level-up from one (Robogirl lvl 3).
And that's it. When that's done you're done with regular PW missions for the season. And the gear and 50 PW mission count loops, so in future seasons you need nothing but the ally level-ups and Blondie.
You need to do plenty of other stuff to finish PW, even in easy mode, but it's all other stuff besides PW missions. (Notably, you need to have a Lab Coat in your inventory, sacrifice a Polar Star, and spend a Lost Weapon, and not one of the easy ones, to build a Digital Keychain.) You get a neat ally (Cipher's +50 appetite bonus will earn him a permanent spot in your dayroll team), a good item (the PizzaWitch Cape gives a 20% AP bonus, as well as +1 level), and you can easily go on to get the Shift to Drift bloodline (+10 Edge on normal missions) and you're a really hard Ride way from getting the Hikari Overworld theme song (+5 Edge on normal missions).
The Edge is an amazing bonus for a high-level player, because the game rolls separately for -every level you have-; your total Edge is the percent chance that you'll get a bonus level each time. An extra 10-15 levels (effectively) means you can run your crank quite a bit higher...
The bonuses for beating it in hard mode are quite good too, of course, but the "hard" part is a LOT harder. Can't cheese it with FTGT, you've just got to be one bad mutha.
Posted by: Avatar_exADV at Tuesday, September 21 2010 09:31 AM (pWQz4)

Yeah, I know. I was just having fun running it at max crank (33, now 35).

I Needed That
Plugged my iron into the power strip to iron a shirt so I could go out and buy some more half-price M&Ms and it went POP! (the power strip that is) and blew its internal safety cutout and the kitchen circuit breaker.
The same power strip runs my phone and my modems, so all my internet connections went away.
So I checked everything and powered back on, and now my backup internet connection is running three times as fast as before.
I have no idea why. And no, I'm not planning to try this again the next time I have connectivity problems.

Steven - I need
pockets, man. Where else am I going to keep all my minor digital widgetry? And any good shirt with pockets needs ironing.
Wonderduck - unfortunately, you can't trade tiles after they've been appraised. Still, one more day of Wasteland farming should do the trick.
Keep all those spares, because once you start Pizza Witch you'll need them!

Crikey
Broke my glasses last night, which is always a nuisance. I've only ever done it twice - once one of the lenses just popped out of the frame and hit the floor; this time I put them down a leetle too close to the edge of the counter in the bathroom.
So I went and got my eyes checked - yep, still two - very little change in the prescription except that I now need reading glasses as well as the regular ones.
The cost of the checkup was pretty reasonable, even with all the extra tests they run these days. (And the fancy gadgets means they don't need to use those horrible eye drops any more, which is a blessing.)*
The frames were pretty reasonable too, after I convinced the lady that the $99 frames that I liked were better than the (admittedly somewhat sturdier) $299 frames that I hated.
The lenses, though... Glerk.
I hope these see me through another eight years before I need to replace them.
* I love the widget where you look into the lens and it goes whirrr and a green blur resolves itself into a miniature farmhouse, entirely automagically.

The farmhouse is pretty benign.
Theres the Hannibal Lector frame that they ask you to plunk your chin into. Followed by the machine that puffs air into your eyeball.

They also did one that takes a photo of the inside of your eye. Which involves a camera flash going off from about two inches away.

My optometrist does that the steampunk way.
She holds a lens up to her eye to inspect whilst shining a torch into the back of my eye.
Not to mention the fun of trying out bifocals with the lego spectacles set. It won't be too long before I join you in needing them.

The best I can say for Julia Gillard is she's not
literally Kevin Rudd.
Unfortunately, that's the best I can say for opposition leader Tony Abbott too. The upcoming election will definitely be a hold-your-nose affair. I'll take whoever will rid us of Steven Conroy, and Gillard has shown she's not up to the task.

Wait, What?
I thought it was cold last night. Forecast suggests more of the same to come. I mean, less of the same. Uh, this:
Tuesday Fine. Sunny.
City: Min: 5 Max: 15
West: Min: -2 Max: 15
Wednesday Fine. Sunny.
City: Min: 6 Max: 16
West: Min: -1 Max: 17
That's a leetle unusual for Sydney.
Update: Currently 2C and falling where I am, and -3C in western Sydney.
Update: Below 2C again at PixyLabs and a balmy -4C in the western suburbs. Brrr!

Feeling Groovy
Well, not exactly
groovy, but at least dappled and drowsy and ready to sleep. And I haven't thrown up at all today.
Now I get to the fun part (based on the last time this happened to me): Not eating for another four or five days. Last time I got this far, started eating again, and it all came back twice as bad.
I have plenty of fruit juice and soft drinks (and some of that electrolyte-replacement powder stuff), so I'm not about to drop dead, but I expect to be pretty darn hungry by the middle of the week.
