Dear Santa, thank you for the dolls and pencils and the fish. It's Easter now, so I hope I didn't wake you but... honest, it is an emergency. There's a crack in my wall. Aunt Sharon says it's just an ordinary crack, but I know its not cause at night there's voices so... please please can you send someone to fix it? Or a policeman, or...
Back in a moment.
Thank you Santa.

Somebody at my work has a tin of Almond Roca. The fool. That will be gone by the end of the day. Heh heh.

After being delayed a few days by this week's baby Nor'Easter, the honor-bar candy guy showed up yesterday, only to have half the office descend upon the box before he could step away from it. Much scratching and clawing over the choice chocolate bars.
I got the only Hershey's in the box.

I
always keep a small bag of m&ms handy for a chocolate emergency, as well as a backup emergency bag for when I've used the emergency bag but not yet had a chance to replace it. So far, I've had no need to go with the emergency backup to the backup emergency bag...

It's the backup emergency bag I'm missing... I keep eating the emergency bag and then I'm left with nothing.
Of course, if I had a backup emergency bag I'd just eat that too.
Hang on, I think I have some after-dinner mints. Am I that desperate? Maybe I can nibble the chocolate off and leave the mint behind. Worth a try, anyway.

Oh, for the love of... I know y'all are enjoying summer, while we freeze, but do you have to complain about it?
I spent this morning wading through two-and-a-half feet of snow in the fields to scrape snow and ice off of our five-meter satellite dishes, and I was the guy with the easy job. The bosses were the poor SOBs shoveling the walks! There are periodic whiteouts on both roads to the University, and the church across the street from my place looks like the bleedin' Matterhorn whenever the wind kicks up.
At least all the snow means that it's warmer than last week. Fewer beardsickles forming while we shovel.

Well, you chose to live at the North Pole.
You do live at the North Pole, right? It doesn't snow like that in normal countries, right?

Central Pennsylvania, my friend. We get the weather so's Old Blighty doesn't have to, courtesy of the North Atlantic Conveyor Belt.
Tell me that Sydney gets at least a little snow in the winters. I didn't think y'all were that far north...

Some parts of Sydney got about five minutes of snow one day in 1986. The last significant snowfalls were in the 1830's.
Sydney is about the same latitude as Los Angeles (only south, of course).

Welcoming Trixie
This is a long weekend for me, since January 26th is
Australia Day. In honor of this, Australia's 103rd year as an independent nation, and inspired by Jen[Pete]'s post on
100 Years Ago, I've decided to try a little experiment. Please bear with me, as this may get a little weird.
Let's get the ball rolling, shall we? I'd like you all to welcome my granddaughter Trixie, who will be taking over blogging responsibilities for the rest of the weekend.
Take it away, Trixie Misa!

You have a granddaughter? What did you do, have children when you were in preschool?
I have this mental image of you as being around... say 30, and still quite the party boy, albeit brain-heavy party boy.
Granddaughter. Zowie.

Out Of Socks Error
... But when I got there,
The sock drawer was bare,
And so my poor feeties had none.
Well, I managed to find a mis-matched pair - one blue, one green, but the same pattern. Which is good enough for going to the office in.
I bought six new pairs at lunch time, all with little sheepies on.
Oh, and my computer crashed again. Even with the new old drivers. Pfft.

Now how does that old chestnut go? There was a Pixy Misa who went to the office with one green and one blue sock on and someone said: "Hey, you've got one green sock and one blue sock." "I know", said Pixy Misa, "I have another pair like this in the wash".
Oh well, being blue green colour-blind I would do this all the time so my wife takes all the green socks away - that way there is less risk of me wearing mismatched colours. Mismatched designs is a much harder problem.

I wish I'd thought of that. It's not the first time I've had a sudden sock shortage and solved it the same way.

We'll just have to re-name you Dobbie.
He's the house-elf from the Harry Potter books who, when presented with a pair of socks as a gift, complains: "oh, sir, they must have made a mistake at the store. They gave you 2 the
same."

Happy New Year!
My neighbours were busy taking photos of the fireworks... With the flash on. That'll work real well.
Okay, so it's only the new year for little kids so far - there's more and noisier fireworks about three hours from now. But sometimes I am only ten years old.
2004, eh? Where's my flying car? I was promised a flying car!
