They did retcon a few things from what I recall, like how Akko found the Shiny Rod in the first place. There's also no mention in the show of the Rod's ability to transmit power beyond the range of the philosopher's stone, which was central to the plot in the second movie. Which should be significant given the plot of the series. Everyone recognizes the Rod as Shiny Chariot's but none of the teachers seem interested in the various powers it has, which is odd.
