Today we look at motherboard.  It's amazing this thing even works.

1 What's wrong with SFP?  I keep seeing people in the comments of reviews begging to put SFP ports in, say, high-end motherboards.

2 In the datacenter, nothing.  At home, well, the major problem is that not a single device I own uses it.  All the new high-end consumer motherboards with 5Gbit or 10Gbit Ethernet are good old RJ-45.  I have Cat-5e and Cat-6/6a cables of every length and colour.  Not one thing compatible with SFP.

3 When my house was built 20 years ago, they ran a structured wiring bundle to every room. I thought, "great, I'll have two coax, two Cat-5, and two fiber". When I moved in, I found that they'd cut the fiber off inside the wall and wired up one of the Cat-5 drops with RJ-11 as a completely redundant set of phone jacks (less than 3 feet away from the standard ones in the kitchen and each bedroom). All the coax was wired into a big analog-cable-compatible switchbox that was obsolete the day I moved in.

If I ever get a place wired again, each room will have two sets of dual Cat-N drops on opposite walls, with extra PoE drops strategically placed near the ceiling for wireless coverage. And a place to store my lottery winnings. :-)

Apple pies are delicious. But never mind apple pies. What colour is a green orange?
