- A hacker has stolen $566 million from Binance Bridge... Sort of. (Bleeping Computer)
This was an item duping scheme, and much as with Ultima Online, Binance responded by burning the hacker's house down. There's still about $70 million of duplicated funds that haven't been incinerated yet, though that might still happen.
Tech News
- Twitter is proudly announcing its new feature, Birdwatch, a combination of the Stasi and the HOA you moved to a different state just to get away from.
They've apparently forgotten that you can simply reply to tweets, perhaps because, very often, you can't. - Recession? What recession? AMD has warned that it will miss its previously expected revenue for Q3 by, well, about a billion dollars. (AnandTech)
Most sectors have held up well but laptop and desktop CPU and GPU sales have dropped by 40% since Q3 of last year.
- Still planning to get that RTX 4090? Plan on also getting the biggest power supply you can. (Tom's Hardware)
And possibly a dedicated 240V circuit.
- Valve has cancelled Steam Deck reservations. (Tom's Hardware)
In the sense that now you just pay the money and they send you one.
Also the Deck Dock, with DisplayPort, HDMI, gigabit Ethernet, and three USB ports, is available now for $89.
- Samsung has started production of GDDR7 memory, just in time for... Oops. (Tom's Hardware)
Better luck next year, every GPU maker in the world.
The new chips operate at up to 36GHz, up from (I think) a maximum of 21GHz for GDDR6X. Though technically that's GT/s because the first D in GDDR stands for "double" and the GHz is really half that.
- Elon Musk asked for a stay in Twitter's lawsuit attempting to force Elon Musk to buy Twitter on the grounds that Elon Musk has agreed to buy Twitter and now Twitter is just stalling. (WCCFTech)
Twitter opposed the stay on the grounds that Elon Musk will fire them all once he takes control.
The judge has granted the stay on the grounds that they richly deserve to be fired.
- Executives at crypto bullshit company Celsius cashed out to the tune of $17 million just before their ponzi scheme folded in on itself. (Gizmodo)
As you do.
- And just to rub salt into everyone's wounds, they doxxed all their users including themselves in a 14,532 page bankruptcy filing. (Web3 Is Going Great)
As you... No. Nobody does that.
Why are they doing this?
Because they don't want people to reply to tweets. They want people to be told.
