Your Message Is Important To Us

I got my email working properly at home. It was last seen alive on Sunday.

I am presently downloading just over 1100 new messages.

I will get back to you. Really. (Just as soon as the spam filter finishes with them. That should cut it down a bit.)

1 Why aren't you running your own mail server? You have a linux box all ready to go, and it's rather easy to do.

2 I am. But I also have an existing account elsewhere. 480 emails on my server plus 640 emails on the other one.

3 I guess a quick "dig" would have revealed the mx record. /me does geek stuff ... Hmmm, Postfix. To each his own. I prefer Exim. I have it patched (exiscan acl) so I can use SpamAssassin to scan mail while the sender is still connected.

4 Anything but Sendmail. Except, of course, Exchange (Ptooie!)™

5 I used to work for Sendmail, Inc. (several years ago) and I won't use sendmail. When I worked for them, I used to the commercial version of the software. It had an excellent web based GUI interface to fully configure your mail server. The GUI was necessary since one of the original design specs was "make it a complete bitch to configure". About a year after I left (er, was laid off from) Sendmail, Inc, I switched to Exim because my copy of sendmail was getting dated and I didn't want to learn how to manually configure the open source version. I just realized something. I have way too much free time on my hands.

6 Heh. Around 1997 or 98, I got to set up my very first mail server. I took a look at Sendmail, screamed, and fled. (I had the O'Reilly book in hand, and I still screamed and fled.) Instead, I ran Qmail for a couple of years (and a little POP server/SMTP forwarding thingy of my own devising). Later I switched to Postfix, which has worked well for me and the company I work for. But I know of plenty of people who think highly of Exim as well.
