Slight Problem

I can't read my own blog at work. Not until Miss OpenBSD and Miss Linux scroll off the page, anyway.

2 You ain't meant to be blogging; you're meant to be working! Back to your oar, swarthy knave! I'm playing with my new ADSL line. Great fun. (Nildram in the UK, recommended by several JREF regs. Love the pose factor of the new email address.) Be advised that a mouse big enough to have seven buttons may be a rat.

3 Serious (but possibly dumb) question. Load of electronics=heat. Insulation-> trapped heat. You want to insulate noise, not heat. As most noise is from cooling fans, why not mount the electronics (in this case the drives) on a rack, OUTSIDE the case? There's no real reason why they have to be inside, is there? Is cable length that critical? For that matter, why stuff the motherboard in a box? disembowel the beast. Let its bits swing low in the balmy breeze and slap a big heatsink on the processor. Free computers! Burn the box!

5 Also, the drives themselves can be somewhat noisy, depending on the rotational speed. And the HSF can be loud as well.

6 There's a fan on the CPU, another on the Northbridge (the main chip on the motherboard) and another on the video card. So even if I were to separate the logic from the storage, I'd still have noise.
