- Intel announced a whole new lineup of CPU security flaws today. (Tom's Hardware)
The flaws, nicknamed ZombieLoad, affect every hyper-threaded Intel CPU manufactured since 2008.
The solution is to disable hyper-threading, which reduces performance on heavily threaded workloads by about 20% but is probably better than having all your data stolen.
Mitigation patches are flying all over the place right now.

It's drawing wide praise, in fact. And it can be yours for "only" $670. (My current phone cost $150 outright.) That's the most expensive phone from OnePlus so far, but it's cheaper than an entry-level iPhone XR.
It lacks wireless charging, which is annoying, and a headphone jack, which is double plus annoying. Either of those is a deal breaker for me.

As of last night when I heard about this, the fear/rumor was that said patches would hurt performance a lot.
Supposedly 8th and 9th-gen chips are immune to this particular set of flaws, and I assume Zen is as well. If I go Intel with my next CPU it'll almost certainly be something like the 9700K--no HT.

I don't get the love for wireless charging. Well, I understand why people like it but I much prefer fast charging. Also, the OP7 and 7 Pro prices...ugh. Sure, they're better than the $900+ prices for other flagships, but a 6-128 Mi Mix 3 is $506 on Amazon and has a Snapdragon 845 and NO NOTCH.

The device where I most appreciate wireless charging is my toothbrush. It's a convenience for my Apple Watch, but I suspect the primary beneficiaries are the engineers responsible for the waterproofing certification.

I should say that I don't have a problem with the concept of wireless charging in general, and I know they're making strides with phone charging getting faster, but it's like, gee, I could do 10W wireless or 30W wired...I'll take the faster over the convenience.
Plus, glass backs? Barf.

I've had three devices so far that still worked fine but wouldn't charge from the USB port anymore. Two supported wireless charging, so that was just an inconvenience. The other one became a paperweight.
