Expense Claims

Exceptions should be, well, the exception.  They're not a replacement for testing condition flags, they're what you use after you've tested all the flags.

And a subroutine that causes 40,000 of them can slow your code down... significantly.

1 Mr. Pixy,

Please fix the comment section of your blogs. I'll be honest: I'm at the point of taking jawa and ace off the feed.  Not because of anything they say, but because I can't friggin' comment on it.

I'm unsure how much you care about whether your sub-blogs get read, so I'll just tell you.  If you can't provide the basic minimum of allowing us to make comments, then I'll be forced to get my news from some non mu.nu source.  It will make me sad, but enough is enough.

2 Also, saying 'it will be fixed in the future' is now meaningless, since you've been saying that for months.  Fix the damn problem so I don't have to fix things by not visiting your sites.

3 Apologies for sounding so angry, but I am.

4 Try perl?

As the former owner of a popular blog, I always thought it was ludicrous and pompous for someone to write to me and say, "If you don't change thus-and-so I will stop reading your blog."

So what? This is supposed to be devastating news to me, a fate worse than death? You think I write this solely for you, and feverishly examine my server blogs searching for your particular IP each day?

I used to get these kinds of threats all the time. And they were always a crock. Sometimes I responded to them by blocking the originating IP in my firewall so that the person in question couldn't read the site any longer.

6 I'd love to fix the comments.

But fix what?

Ace's latest post has 113 comments on it, so obviously it's working for other people.  If you don't tell me what's wrong, I can't fix the problem that you are having.

7 Put him on rss.  The 'new comment thingy' works great, but it isn't attached to the rss feed.  Same with Jawa.  The one that is attached flings errors at me if I try to comment, and doesn't show many of the comments that are there.

8 Right.  Both Ace and Rusty are preparing to move to the new system, which has working RSS.

9 Steven - it is a bit different in my case, since I'm preparing to launch a commercial blogging site.  For every user who reports a problem, I have to assume there's a hundred who have silently given up and gone elsewhere.

Which had working RSS, and now has working RSS again.

11 Do you have a date set for when RSS will work correctly on their sites?  Stephen was right, I'll probably not discontinue reading their blogs, but it's frickin' annoying.

12 I'll have to talk to them about that.  Ace is doing a new site design along with the move; Rusty is testing some stuff before he jumps.

Reporting bugs is one thing. Making empty and stupid threats is another. If he'd said that crap to me, I'd have banned him.

Kevin, you were completely out of line. Visiting this site is a privilege, not a right. You are not in a position to demand anything from Pixy.
