  • Shadowrun Returns WAS FREE ON HUMBLY BUNDLY TODAY ONLY ACT NOW ACT NOW TOO LATE!  Still 75% off though.

  • TSMC are ramping up 7nm to full production including orders from AMD for both GPUs and CPUs, with more than 50 chips taped.  An enhanced 7nm process using EUV fairy dust is set to enter risk production in 2019, and 5nm starting in 2020.

    AMD normally uses Global Foundries for CPUs, but this time are spreading production across two suppliers.  7nm is very new so likely a wise move despite the increased costs.

  • Gluon is a new embedded scripting language written in Rust, statically but not explicitly typed.  It's designed to inherit Rust's strict guarantees of thread safety, though exactly how fast this will be in practice is a question to be examined.  Versions of Python without the global interpreter lock are quite noticeably slower than the regular release.

  • STH has one of those days.  I get to deal with lots of those days, only they are a fifteen minute drive from their datacenter, and I'm a fifteen hour flight from mine.

    I'm seriously considering migrating everything over to DigitalOcean and forgetting about running my own servers.

I was a backer of the Shadowrun Returns Kickstarter but since HBS did not offer a GoG option at the time, I had to download it via the non-Steam alternative they had, which was not very useful for me later.

Nice that TSMC is doing well - Taiwan's economy needs all the good news it can get over the last few years.

A lot of people claim GloFo's "inefficient" 14nm process is what's holding back Ryzen's clock speeds.  I have no idea if this's true or not but it'll be interesting to see what happens with 7nm Zen.  Especially if it's produced at both foundries.

3 GloFo's 14 nm process is shared with Samsung, and while not inefficient, it's designed for low power rather than high clock speeds.  Their 7nm process will have both power and performance optimised versions.  They've released some details and it looks very impressive on paper.

Zen itself has as many pipeline stages as Skylake, so there's no reason it shouldn't be reaching the high 4.x GHz range once they get it on a suitable process.  If 7nm works out as hoped it could hit the low-to-mid 5.x range.

Also, it'll be over soon anyway, I guess, but they changed Shadowrun Returns so it's $6.24, not free.
